Smashing Magazine WordPress Theme

And as last time, we were overwhelmed by the amount of ideas and suggestions. Overall, we received over 500 comments in our announcement post. It was also the reason why we took more time than expected to identify theme ideas. We picked over 185 (!) suggestions, combined them according to similarity and ranked them in order of popularity. We ended up with the seven most popular ideas.

And now it is your turn to decide which WordPress theme we should design. Please vote for your favorite set in the poll below. And please spread the word so that as many users as possible can participate, so that the set that is truly most wanted by the community is chosen. You have 72 hours.

Your ideas for the community WordPress theme

Let’s take a close look at the most popular ideas that were presented in your comments in the magazine:
  1. Portfolio theme A light theme with such features as featured post, breadcrumbs, video embedding, gallery, jQuery slideshow, promo area, auto-image resizing. Maybe Wiki integration, place for CV, integration of blog and portfolio.
  2. Magazine theme A slick innovative magazine-style theme with sIFR, featured photo articles, easy image posting, organizing capabilities, with jQuery/Prototype for interactivity, clean look, unique style, SEO, maybe newspaper look. Optionally with goal revenue generation techniques built in. Styling a theme according to categories, so for example, when someone clicks through to the “CSS” category, it has certain design elements or colours relative to that category only.
  3. Portfolio-magazine-blog-gallery theme Essentially, the combination of the first two, including portfolio options and the magazine-structure, but also containing a simple functionality to add galleries.
  4. Podcasting/Video/Photography-theme A new style of media-blog that contains featured content (for video maybe even a featured video in the top), simple functionality to add a video / audio to each post, embedded player, Twitter support, post (podcast) rating, video gallery, blog as your private tv channel, with iTunes subscriptions. Another option is that the theme could be used to publish albums and sets of pictures, including rating plugin.
  5. “Personal Hub”-theme A lifestreaming theme which displays your tweets, Facebook status, Flick, is syncronized with iGoogle, sexy look.
  6. Comic Book Lovers theme Word balloons, comic book fonts (not comic sans, of course), comic character sketches, sound bubbles, voice-over-style blocks, primary colors, nice paper texture, even a comic-style gallery.
  7. Typographic theme A theme with strong focus on bold, colorful typography, with much whitespace and (maybe) grid-based.

What theme should we design for you?
